Universities of Pretoria and Cape Town South Africa.Registered specialist in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine both in South Africa and Israel.
Fellow of the Faculty of Anaesthesiology, College of Medicine of South Africa
since 1980 and Master of Philosophy in Critical Care Medicine from 1990,
University of Cape Town. Previously Principal Specialist, Principal Lecturer
and co-director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit of the Departments of
Medicine and Anaesthesiology, University of Cape Town.
Currently Director: Medical Intensive Care Unit, Department of Medicine,
Hadassah Medical Organization and Clinical Senior lecturer of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem.
Previously President of the South African Society of Anaesthesiology and Past
President of the Critical Care Medicine Society of Southern Africa. Associate
Editor of the Southern African Journal of Critical Care and Past Editorial
Board member of Current Opinion in Pulmonology and Current Opinion in Critical
Care. ATLS and ACLS Instructor since 1992. Life member of the South African
Aerospace Medical Society and Senior Aeromedical Examiner of the Federal
Aviation Administration of the United States Government. Special interests and
expertise include: the design, management and audit of adult intensive care
practice; all aspects of adult and pediatric perioperative anaesthesia and
respiratory intensive care; peri-operative and intensive care management of
neurological crises; obstetrical crises management and air and road transport
of the critically Ill. Exceptional procedural skills include: mechanical
ventilatory support and difficult weaning; difficult airway management;
noninvasive mechanical ventilation; minimally invasive percutaneous dilational
tracheostomy; cricothyroid puncture and jet ventilation; central venous and
arterial line placement; pulmonary artery catheterization and monitoring;
noninvasive cardiac output monitoring; and interpretation of capnography.
Professor Linton is an internationally acknowledged expert in air ambulance
transport of critically ill patients. He has assisted in the organization of
national and international air medical rescue organizations and operations in
Africa and the Middle East for the past 20 years. Professor Linton is an
Instrument Rated Commercial Pilot with more than 1,300 hours. He was a
volunteer pilot and Honorary Chief Medical Officer to the South African Red
Cross Air Ambulance Service for 10 years. In 1997 he organized the first
Dedicated Air Ambulance service in the Middle East - negotiated the purchase
and medical installation of the first suitable aircraft for Air Ambulance
Service in Israel. Currently holder of both South African and Israeli
Commercial Pilots licenses and acting as Honorary Pilot and Medical Director of
the first Airborne Intensive Care Unit in Israel. Licensed in Israel as Pilot
on multi-engined and Jet aircraft. Sporting activities: Jogging, swimming,
squash, windsurfing, diving, camping. Musical Instruments played: Piano, piano
accordion.
